Australia's new entries in the Ark of Taste


From Slow Food Australia comes terrific news of the listing of two native Australian foods on the International Ark of Taste.

Firstly, Pindan Walnut, terminalia cunninghamii also known as the "Kalumburu almond" or known locally by the indigenous Karajarri people south of Broome as "Kumpaja". Native to the North Western Coast of Australia. This listing was initiated by Pauline Tresise from the SF Perth Convivium with the help of Pat Torres also a member of the SF Perth Convivium.

Secondly, the Finger Limes, citrus australasica. About 90 varieties have been identified and are indigenous to a particular region of the north east coast of New South Wales and South East Queensland. This nomination was made by Australian Ark Commissioner Cherry Ripe with the assistance of Judy Viola an expert in Finger Limes from Bangalow in Northern New South Wales.
